Empower Indigenous governance over their own communities
On American soil, Indigenous peoples have been stripped of land, rights, and autonomy over the course of centuries. Broken treaties and forced policies have denied them what is rightfully theirs: the power to govern their own communities. Indigenous nations must have control over their lands, resources, and futures, free from outside interference.
Project 2029 is committed to defending and supporting Indigenous sovereignty by:
Reforming federal funding and support for tribal nations to enhance tribal self-determination. This shall include restoring Executive Orders 13985 and 14019, which commit the federal government to streamlining and improving self-determination policies by consulting directly with Tribal leaders, reducing administrative hurdles, increasing funding flexibility, and assessing long-standing funding shortfalls.
Advancing educational opportunities for Native Americans by strengthening tribal colleges and universities. This must include restoring Executive Order 14049, which strengthens Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) by improving and increasing access to federal funding, promoting culturally relevant education, and increasing Native student access to higher education and career pathways. By bolstering educational resources, Native American communities will be better equipped to thrive.
